Signed the petition.

In the 1950's and 1960's, there was a popular phrase in the UK: "It's a free country."
It meant that people could do what they liked, so long as they didn't interfere with others. It reminded people that much of the world was not free, and under the heel of communist or fascist dictatorships.
Funny thing... the phrase has gone out of fashion. Perhaps it's because people in the UK no longer feel quite so free.
Same thing in the USA, it seems.

That saying was quite popular with the younger community for a while during my primary and secondary schooling years (late 1990s and early to mid 2000s). I don't hear it as much now...could it be the same thing here in Aus?

If we say that we would like our countries to be free again, will we be labelled as dissidents?

Originally, dissident just meant disagreeing. For many years news reports have spoken of repressive governments imprisoning dissidents. Now the word has gained criminal overtones, and become synonymous with subversive.

Seriously? Damn...shows the type of world we live in now, though - you either agree with society, or you're left for dead.

Your right about that. The US is free only if you have the money and power to live that way.

The 99% protesters are a good example of what the US is suppose to be about. If you don't like what's happening you should be able to stand up and protest against it, and you can if you're by yourself. But, if you let too many people join in and the whole country starts to take notice, then the Government (acting on behalf of the 1%) will find a way to shut you down.

It is rather prominent. You must have been on autopilot, or on something else at least!

Here is a video by TB that gives out a very nice summary on the entire SOPA act and what it means to you even if you are not an American
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhwuX...4eFUAAAAAAAAAA
Now obviously everyone has spoken out against this thing with vitriolic(and justified) hate.

Good link! It is not often that I watch anything on YouTube for over 15 minutes, but TotalBiscuit had me riveted.

I was on Autopilot because I did see it, but I didn't really see it.
Is that related to EFF, "Electronic Frontier Foundation"? I've been getting emails from them asking for a donation. I must have gone to their site at some point but can't remember when or why. Here is their about page: https://www.eff.org/about
Do you know anything about them?

Agreed sours. We have a supposed democracy aswell, but when it comes to decisions, the public are ignored. Take the student protests for example.
